The municipality of Øygarden lies northwest of Bergen in the county of Hordaland and comprises of around 550 islands of varying sizes. This long and narrow municipality is home to 4200 people. It is bordered by Hjeltefjorden on the east, and the open sea in the west and is only forty kilometres from Bergen.
Our names are Nigel and Sissel Goodgame and we have moved to Toftøy. We would like to share our experiences of the wildlife we have seen with everyone who visits this website. With us, we have our two best friends, Jeff Blincow and Nick Roberts from England, who also have fallen in love with this beautiful island chain. Currently we live in England, but we spend as much time as we can in Øygarden until we move here permanently.
This is not a full list of all the wildlife present on the islands but a record of the things we have seen. We will try to maintain lists with all the different speices that we have found and identified. |
